Discussion on the Effect of Paper Raw Materials and Adhesives on the Adhesion Strength of Corrugated Paperboard

In the physical performance parameters of the carton, the adhesive fastness is a key indicator, and its value has a great influence on the carton production and the resistance of the finished carton to pressure. Many companies produce corrugated cartons, which often fail to meet the standard value of 6N/cm2 when they are tested for performance. Carton production, the main material for all types of paper. According to weight, it can be divided into cardboard and corrugated paper. According to the origin, it can be divided into imported and domestic. According to the material, it can be divided into wood pulp paper, bamboo pulp paper, straw pulp paper, and waste paper back to papermaking. The adhesives used are mainly cedarine and corn starch adhesives. Corn starch adhesives are divided into cold glue and hot glue. Corn starch can be used in many different quality adhesives because of different formulations. The quality properties of paper materials and bonding can affect the adhesive strength of the carton.

Under normal circumstances, high adhesiveness and good penetration of the glue, the production of paper rights and adhesive strength is high, and vice versa, it is bad. Cardboard produced from hot glue has better adhesiveness than cold glue and is more noticeable in winter. Paperboard using cornstarch as a binder has a higher adhesive fastness than brewing caustic soda, especially in areas with high humidity or after a certain period of storage. Paperboard produced from wood pulp is better than paperboard produced from other materials.

The effect of the quality characteristics of the paper on the adhesive strength of the panel is mainly the moisture content of the paper and the structural characteristics of the paper surface layer and the core layer. During the test, it was found that some of the board surface layers and the core layer caused layering due to the process or the fiber tension was small, resulting in the formation of cardboard layers, which reduced the adhesive strength. When the moisture content of the paper is less than 14%, the paper absorbs glue quickly and penetrates well. The paperboard produced has good adhesive strength, but if the paper is too dry, it will absorb the moisture in the adhesive too quickly. The fluidity inhibits the permeation of the adhesive, so that the adhesive cannot penetrate to a sufficient depth, and instead, the adhesiveness of the paperboard is decreased. On the contrary, if the base paper is too wet, the moisture of the base paper will hinder the absorption of the adhesive by the fibers and cause the adhesive to overgrow. It was found in the tests that the adhesiveness of cardboard was affected by the amount of corrugated and cardboard paper glue, the width of glue applied, and the depth of glue penetration. Some imported wood pulp papers have tight fiber and low density, good flowability and permeability, and high paperboard bond strength; while some home-made papers have loose fiber and low density, but fiber tension is better. Good penetration performance gel is selected; if fiber tension is poor, glue with good adhesion and permeability should be prepared to ensure adsorption and adhesion of glue and improve the adhesive strength of cardboard.
