Japan's export of waste paper soars to fifth largest exporter of waste paper

For the purpose of environmental protection and ecological protection, the Japanese government introduced three consumer product recycling bills in the 1990s. The first two bills deal with the collection and use of waste newspapers. The latter involves waste paper boxes and cartons. The “collection promotion method” is collectively referred to, and its effective implementation greatly promotes the recycling and export of Japanese waste paper.

Due to the success of Japan’s waste paper recycling policy, Japan’s waste paper recycling volume has increased substantially at a rate of 5-6% per year. However, the pulp and paper industry in the world are sluggish, and Japan is no exception. The paperboard industry is particularly weak. As a result, paper mills can only increase the use of waste paper by 1% per year. Excess waste paper can only be exported.

Although the recovery of waste paper in Japan has increased, its domestic demand has dropped, and as a result, Japan’s waste paper exports have gradually become a climate. In 2001, it was estimated that it exceeded 1 million tons. Become the fifth largest waste paper exporter in the world except the United States, Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands. Japan's main export direction of waste paper is mainland China and Taiwan, North Korea and Thailand.
