The BASF company in Germany recently released a new major technical progress information. The foaming plastic Ultratoct prepared by the company's polyethersulfone UltrasonE has been applied industrially for the first time.
The industrialized product is the back seat back of the BMW 牗 BMW M3CSL sports car made of this new type of foamed plastic Ultratoct, which was first introduced at the automobile exhibition held in Geneva, Switzerland, in March 2003. It was jointly developed by two German companies specializing in the development and production of composite materials.
The new rear seatback of the BMW M3CSL vehicle weighs 5.5kg. Only half the weight of the previous steel structure. The car shows the same performance in the event of a collision, while the vibration damping is better than the traditional structure products. The backrest 25mm thick core is Ul. Tratoct foamed plastics, produced by ACS, uses BASF's patented technology.
The foam core was sandwiched between two layers of 1 mm thick glass felt reinforced PP layers and the two were joined together by a thermoforming process. The molding time was 1.5 minutes. Finally add a thin buffer layer and ABS edge layer to the finished product.
